Who we are
lifeinuktests.org is an independent, unofficial study resource and is not part of gov.uk.
If you don't create an account
Your chapter progress, ticked flashcards, mock-exam scores and any ILR & citizenship tracker entries and ILR documents checklist ticks are saved in your browser's local storage on your own device. They are not sent to us. Clearing your browser's site data removes them.
If you create an account
Signing in is optional and lets your data follow you between devices. When you do:
- Your email address and password. Used only to sign you in. Your password is handled by our authentication provider and stored in hashed form, so we can't read it.
- Your study progress. Which chapters you've visited, flashcards you've ticked and your mock-exam scores.
- Your ILR & citizenship tracker. Your visa route, visa start date, ILR date (if you enter it), and each trip you log (country, reason, departure and return dates). Travel history can be sensitive, so please don't enter anything you aren't comfortable storing. We never ask for passport, visa or Home Office reference numbers. The chart, trip planner, spreadsheet import and CSV/PDF export all run in your browser. Files you import are read on your device and never uploaded, and exported files are created on your device.
This data is stored with Supabase, our database and authentication provider, which acts as our processor. Each table is protected by row-level security, so a signed-in user can only read and change their own rows. The site operator has administrative access to the database in order to run the service. Supabase may process data outside the UK, relying on recognised safeguards where it does.
What we use it for
Only to run the features you ask for: signing you in, syncing your progress, and saving your tracker. We don't sell your data, show ads, or build advertising profiles. Our lawful basis is providing the account and sync service you requested (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b)).
How long we keep it, and deleting it
We keep your account data until you delete it. To clear your tracker at any time, use “Clear all my tracker data” on the tracker page; this also removes the saved copy in your account.
Cookies, scripts and third parties
- The site's code loads no advertising or analytics scripts and no third-party fonts.
- When you sign in, your sign-in session is kept in your browser's local storage.
- The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which handles requests (including IP addresses) as part of serving pages and keeping the site secure.
- The “Donate” button links to Buy Me a Coffee, a separate service with its own privacy policy. We don't share any of your data with it.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how it's used, or receive a copy in a portable format. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If this notice changes in a way that matters, we'll update the date at the top.
The ILR & citizenship tools give estimates only and are not legal advice.
